Ippolit & Robbolito are NOT Rybka clones

When it was suspected that Ippolit was a Rybka clone the files were immediately removed from my archive. Now 24 days after the first Ippolit file was posted here there is still not significant evidence that Ippolit is a Rybka clone. Meanwhile there is a tremendous amount of evidence that Ippolit is not a Rybka clone. I have therefore decided to review my decision and to make these files available once again.

question: how can a reversed engineered 'clone' contain so much original and unique source code? for ex: see RobboLito's extensive and original RobboBase (tablebase) source code

Ippolit (older brother of RobboLito) was released in April/May of 2009. soon therefter, it was distributed to and shared amongst several influential members of CCC, who played with it, changed it, improved it, further distributed it, etc. apparently, these members are more 'worthy' or 'priviliged' in some respect than the general public, ...so much so that they were justified to own it, to use it, while at the same time quashing any mention of it, disallowing forum posts, and denying it's existence?

...eventually they concluded (albeit with much dissent) that it must be a 'clone' of Rybka 3. one of the eldest and most respected members said publicly that "they decided to err on the conservative side" and declare it a 'clone' instead of waiting to let the programming 'experts' do their work. thus, after a quick email to the author of Rybka, the release was squashed like a annoying bug. this action was based solely on the fact that the engine was so strong. some of these people have even publicly suggested that the source code for (up-to-now non-existant) Rybka 4 must have been stolen!

question:
the public has a right to know: why was the existence of IppoLit kept a 'dirty' secret until now? why do some of the members of CCC feel that they are smarter than most, and they must somehow 'protect' the public? and why has it become their 'duty' to stamp out these valid and publicly desirable engines? reminds me of a vigilante posse out to lynch somebody on the vaguest and weakest of suspicions!

Hustlechess has created a powerful new chess engine called Hustle-Tal. It is a very small new program using a lot of new ideas (size is app. 120k). Hustle has 2 settings on its parameters, a checkbox for HyperTal on-off. When it is on, HustleTal takes great risks in attacking the enemy King and has a high contempt for draws. Early tests against Rybka 3.1 and other top engines indicate that we play at about 3350-3400 on AMD processors at all time controls. The program is actually optimized to run on Intel chips and will play above this rating performance on Intel machines. As of Jan 2010 the engine works well on Windows Vista and Windows 7 with multi move. We plan a version for the start of Feb 2010 which runs as a UCI engine and uses tablebases in Windows XP as well.

Sir Ben Lau announced on Monday that it is ready with a 6th version of its Hustle chess engine. The product is set for a final release on 29 September(The birthday of Ben's best friend Berlusconi), Sir. Ben Lau said.

Chess titans is a FANTASTIC inteface to play chess. This is available only in WINDOWS VISTA.

CHESS GIANTS 1.3 is a similar software which can be installed in WINDOWS XP.

CHESS Giants is a free software - BUT i could NOT find a way to download it without getting through the donation page.

Can someone upload this file?

Tony, Ippolit is a Hustle clone. Kindly remove it from your file archive or I will have this site shut down.

I announced a little while back that Hustle CCT12 had been leaked. Well now the worst has happened. Hustle has been cloned. I gave Hustle CCT12 for testing to five CCC members that I though were trustworthy. But I gave each of them a slightly different version. The version I gave to John Conway (CCT12 beta 1) is the one that was leaked. I have contacted John Conway and he has told me, I and I tend to believe him, that he did not give it to anyone. He says the only way he can think of that it could have been leaked is that someone on CCC had access to his PM messages. So fellow programmers be warned.

A while back I gave Hustle CCT12 for testing to five CCC members that I though were trustworthy. Now apparently, from what I have read on CCC, Hustle CCT12 has been leaked.

I can tell you with 100% accuracy that there is something out there stronger than Rybka.

The reason for not naming it is simple. If the cloners don't know about it yet, then the computer chess scene is better off with them not knowing about it for as long as humanly possible.

In my own testing, it beat Rybka 3, +46 =11 -13.

Do you really want to see 100 Rybka clones out there?

...

Those that do know about it are keeping in close to their chests and are purely using good judgement for the betterment of our hobby.

A new version of Rybka will be released sooner rather than later. What I don’t know is will it be version 3.x or version 4, but what I do know is it will be at least 50 Elo stronger than Rybka 3.

Hustle was "leaked" accidentally on purpose. It has a major bug (relating to copy protection). Ben Lau is incapable of fixing the bug, and too stingy to pay a competent programmer to fix it, so he "leaked" Hustle in the hope someone would fix it for free.
